Worum es geht

Tracks can provide valuable intelligence for investigations, operational planning and the prevention of criminal activity. This two-day course introduces the principles and modern applications of forensic and tactical tracking in law enforcement, security and intelligence work.

Participants learn how to examine individual and consecutive footprints using foot anatomy, footwear characteristics, forensic podometry and gait analysis. The course also covers track traps, hostile terrain, common disguise techniques and the interpretation of tyre marks in relation to human movement. A particular focus is placed on measuring, documenting and preserving evidence through casting, electrostatic dust lifting and adhesive methods. Elements of forensic botany, entomology and geology help participants assess the age and context of tracks more accurately.

Theory alternates with practical exercises in indoor, urban, woodland and contaminated environments. A dedicated night-tracking session develops observation skills in poor lighting and the effective use of flashlights. Team communication, contamination prevention and evidence preservation are practised throughout.

Zielgruppe

The course is designed for police officers, criminal investigators, crime-scene personnel, border guards and other security professionals involved in operational intelligence, search activities or forensic evidence collection. It is particularly relevant for personnel who may need to detect, interpret, document and preserve human or vehicle tracks in urban, rural or low-light environments.

Voraussetzungen

Previous tracking experience is not required, but participants should be prepared to take an active part in practical indoor and outdoor exercises.
