Terrorism continues to evolve, presenting law enforcement with complex and ever-changing challenges. Understanding how terrorist actors plan, operate, and can be disrupted is essential for effective prevention and response. This intensive seminar is tailored for young police officers and IPA members who want to deepen their knowledge of counter-terrorism and strengthen their investigative skills. Led by an expert team of trainers, the program combines theory and practice in a dynamic learning environment. Participants will gain a structured understanding of the terrorism planning cycle – from intelligence gathering and surveillance to operational execution and response. Real-life case studies, interactive exercises, and a high-intensity scenario simulation will equip them with the tools, insights, and confidence needed to address the complexities of modern counter-terrorism operations. Martijn BijlsmaReferent
Perfil
Martijn holds an academic degrees in both Applied Cognitive Psychology and Educational Sciences. He has also published research on the cognitive effects of stress in military personnel. As a former university lecturer, Martijn has extensive experience teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate psychology students. He delivered lectures on biological, cognitive, and social psychology, and supervised students in their master’s theses.
In addition to his academic background, Martijn is an active firefighter who has developed specialized expertise in incident and crisis management through the design and delivery of national training programs for the fire brigade across the Netherlands. He also creates and manages industry-specific webinars for various firefighting units. Martijn regularly delivers opposing force (OPFOR) for first responder training programs. Furthermore, he has been teaching (military) self-defense for over 15 years, further enriching his practical and instructional experience
