About this seminar

Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology play an increasing role in fraud, money laundering, ransomware, terrorist financing and illicit online markets. This three-day course provides law enforcement professionals with a practical, investigation-focused introduction to crypto ecosystems, blockchain technology and digital transaction tracing.

Participants explore how transactions work across Bitcoin, Ethereum and other networks, and examine the roles of wallets, exchanges, mixers, privacy coins and cross-chain techniques. They learn to recognise red flags and laundering patterns, trace transactions manually using blockchain explorers, and gain an insight into professional analysis tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs and Elliptic.

A particular focus is placed on linking on-chain data with OSINT and traditional investigative methods. Realistic case studies and hands-on exercises enable participants to apply what they have learned, document digital evidence and consider relevant legal requirements.

Target group

The course is aimed at law enforcement officers, investigators, analysts and prosecutors involved in financial crime, fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, terrorist financing or organised crime. It is particularly relevant for criminal investigation departments, financial intelligence units, cybercrime and digital forensics teams, asset recovery and confiscation specialists, OSINT practitioners, and officers investigating ransomware or illicit online markets. Compliance and anti-money-laundering professionals working alongside law enforcement may also benefit.

Requirements

Previous specialist knowledge of cryptocurrencies or blockchain analysis is not required, but participants should have a basic understanding of investigative processes and digital evidence.
